Tornado Microburst Ultra-Compact Battery Scrubber (TS040-W17-U)

The Tornado Microburst (Model TS040-W17-U) is Tornado’s ultra-compact battery scrubber — designed to deliver the cleaning performance of a full-sized automatic scrubber in a 40-lb, 17.9″ × 13.9″ footprint with 360° maneuverability. Dual counter-rotating brushes at 45 lbs of down pressure, an efficient vacuum and squeegee recovery system, and a dual-speed LiFePO₄ battery system make the Microburst the direct functional replacement for a mop and bucket in tight commercial spaces where a standard walk-behind scrubber won’t fit. Productivity of 19,000 sq ft/hr. Sound level of 67 dB(A). Priced at $2,599.99 (was $2,649.00).

⚠ Battery sold separately. The Microburst includes the charger but the Lithium Iron Phosphate battery must be ordered separately — Part #MB027. Call us at 763-535-0770 to add the battery to your order.

Key Features of the Tornado Microburst

Dual Counter-Rotating Brushes — 45 lbs Down Pressure

The Microburst uses two 8.5″ counter-rotating brushes that spin in opposite directions simultaneously. Counter-rotation is the key mechanical difference between the Microburst and a single-disk scrubber: counter-rotating brushes cancel each other’s lateral torque, keeping the machine tracking straight without pulling left or right. The operator guides the machine with minimal effort rather than fighting brushroll torque. 45 lbs of down pressure on the brushes maintains firm floor contact for effective soil agitation even on textured surfaces like commercial VCT, quarry tile, and textured epoxy. The brushes are magnetically mounted — press on, pull off with no tools and no contact with soiled brush bristles during removal.

Dual Speed — ECO Mode and Power Mode

The Microburst runs in two modes selectable by the operator:

  • ECO Mode — 365 RPM: Extended battery runtime up to 2 hours. For maintenance cleaning of lightly soiled floors, daily cleaning passes, and extended-shift operation where maximizing runtime per charge matters.
  • Power Mode — 435 RPM: Maximum agitation for heavier soiling, stubborn stains, and textured floor surfaces. Runtime up to 1.5 hours. For deeper cleaning passes and more demanding soil conditions.

Both modes are selected electronically — the controls are described as intuitive and designed to require minimal operator training.

Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery — ETL Listed

The Microburst uses a Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO₄) battery — not standard lithium-ion. LiFePO₄ chemistry offers three important advantages for commercial floor care equipment: it is inherently more thermally stable than standard Li-ion (lower risk of thermal runaway in charging or use), it maintains a flatter discharge voltage curve delivering more consistent brush speed through the discharge cycle, and it has a longer cycle life — typically 2,000–3,000 charge cycles versus 500–1,000 for standard Li-ion. The machine, battery, and charger are all ETL listed, independently verified to applicable safety standards. Charger included; battery (Part #MB027) sold separately. Charge time is 3 hours.

Efficient Vacuum and Squeegee Recovery — Cleans and Dries in One Pass

The Microburst scrubs and recovers in the same pass — the vacuum and squeegee system captures solution and suspended soil immediately behind the brush zone before it can spread, dry, or create a slip hazard. Single-pass scrub-and-dry eliminates the wet floor period that follows mopping and dramatically reduces slip-and-fall risk on hard floors during and after cleaning. The quick-release squeegee removes without tools for cleaning or replacement.

360° Maneuverability — Built for Tight Spaces

360° maneuverability is what operationally differentiates the Microburst from larger walk-behind scrubbers. The machine turns on its own footprint — the operator can spin it in place, work around table legs and chair bases, clean into corners, and navigate restroom partitions, elevator interiors, and narrow galley corridors that are impassable for standard scrubbers. At 17.9″ × 13.9″, it fits through standard doorways, fits in elevators, and stores in standard janitor closets.

1.3-Gallon Solution / 2.1-Gallon Recovery Tanks — Both Detachable

The 1.3-gallon solution tank and 2.1-gallon recovery tank are both detachable for filling, emptying, and rinsing away from the machine. The recovery tank is intentionally larger than the solution tank — as solution is consumed and diluted soil is recovered, the recovery tank has sufficient capacity to complete the solution tank without requiring an emergency dump mid-task. Tornado notes these tank capacities outperform comparable competitors, reducing refill and dump frequency during cleaning sessions.

40 lbs — Operator-Friendly Weight

At 40 lbs (without battery), the Microburst is light enough for a single operator to carry between floors, load into a vehicle, and maneuver without physical strain. For multi-floor commercial buildings where floor care equipment must be transported between levels, this weight is operationally significant. A full-sized compact scrubber typically weighs 100–200 lbs and requires freight elevators or ramps for transport.

67 dB(A) — Occupied-Hours Cleaning

At 67 dB(A), the Microburst is suitable for cleaning in occupied commercial spaces during business hours — retail stores with customers present, hotel corridors during guest hours, healthcare facilities during operating hours, and office buildings during the work day. Standard mop-and-bucket cleaning produces no meaningful noise advantage; the Microburst cleans faster and more thoroughly at the same noise threshold a mop and bucket presents.

The Microburst vs a Mop and Bucket

The Microburst is specifically positioned by Tornado as “the perfect upgrade from a mop and bucket.” The operational comparison:

FactorMop and BucketTornado Microburst
Soil removalRedistributes soil across the floor surfaceBrushes agitate and recover soil in the same pass
Slip hazardExtended wet floor period after moppingSqueegee and vacuum recover solution — floor dries faster
Coverage speedVaries by operator — no fixed productivityUp to 19,000 sq ft/hr
ConsistencyOperator-dependent — solution gets dirty and redistributedClean solution dispensed continuously from tank
Tight spacesCan reach tight spaces — awkward technique required360° turn — designed for tight spaces
Labor intensityHigh — wringing, bucket transporting, repeated passesLow — single forward pass, electronic controls

Commercial Applications

  • Restrooms — toilet partitions, around fixtures, narrow floor areas between stalls
  • Retail — cleaning between displays, around fixtures, under shelving in store aisles
  • Healthcare — patient room hard floors, exam room tile, narrow corridor areas, elevator interiors
  • Hotels and hospitality — elevator interiors, narrow service corridors, break room tile, laundry room floors
  • Education — classroom hard floors, cafeteria service areas, locker room tile
  • Food service — kitchen prep areas, galley corridors, behind serving lines
  • Office buildings — break room tile, lobby hard floors, narrow hallways
  • Any area where a standard scrubber won’t fit — the Microburst’s 17.9″ × 13.9″ footprint and 360° turn access spaces that walk-behind scrubbers cannot
