Tornado 98166 Brush Assembly Parts
Brush assembly parts for the Tornado 98166 Marathon 800 115-volt extractor. This assembly does the mechanical work of cleaning, and it is the one that wears fastest on a machine in regular service.
What is in the Tornado 98166 brush assembly
Thirty-nine items make up this section. At its centre is the complete brush roller assembly, together with the bearings and bearing housings it turns in, the drive pulleys and belt, and the shroud that encloses it. Around those sit the shroud latch lever, the latch lever clamp and their fasteners, plus the jack nuts, screws, lock washers and nuts that hold the assembly to the chassis. Several items are listed as not shown on the drawing — fasteners and a jack nut — and those are included here because they are genuinely part of the assembly even though the artwork does not call them out.
Which series does this fit?
These parts come from the current Series F parts book for the Marathon 800. Older Series B through Series E machines are built with different assemblies — not simply different part numbers — so an early machine may not take what is listed here. Call 763-535-0770 with your serial number and we will confirm before you order.
When does a brush assembly part need replacing?
A brush roller that has gone soft or uneven stops agitating carpet pile and the machine starts leaving dirt behind at the same solution rate. Bearings announce themselves with noise and side-to-side play in the roller. A belt that has stretched or glazed will slip under load, so the brush slows the moment it meets resistance. A shroud latch that no longer holds lets the shroud lift in use and changes how the brush sits against the floor.
Are these brush parts shared with other Marathon machines?
Much of this assembly is shared across the Marathon family, and the factory names the complete brush roller assembly for several models at once. Each part page lists every machine we have confirmed it fits, so check there rather than assuming a part is specific to this model.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is the brush on my Tornado 98166 not turning?
Work from the cheapest cause outward: the drive belt, then the shroud latch and its clamp holding the assembly in position, then the brush bearings, and only then the brush motor itself. A belt that has glazed or stretched will slip under load and look like a dead motor from the operator position.
How do I get the brush shroud off a Tornado 98166?
The shroud is held by a latch lever, part 19192, working against its clamp, part 19156. Both are wear items — once the lever rounds off or the clamp loses tension the shroud will not seat properly, which lets the brush ride unevenly and wears one end of it faster than the other.
What hardware holds the brush assembly together?
Lock washers, kep nuts, machine screws and jack nuts, all sold individually so you are not buying a kit for one fastener. They are inexpensive, and because several of them look alike it is worth ordering by the number on the drawing rather than matching one you have taken out.
How do I order Tornado 98166 brush assembly parts or get help choosing?
Add the part you need to your cart from its own page, or call us at 763-535-0770 and we will confirm it against your machine first. Our staff at 5415 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55428 has been servicing floor-care equipment since 1956, and if you have your serial number handy we can check it before anything ships.
