What the brush roll does

The roll agitates soil out of the pile so the airflow can carry it away. The softer bristle grade flexes more against the carpet, which is gentler on cut-pile and on older carpet where a hard bristle can fuzz the face fibre, at the cost of some aggression on heavily soiled loop.

Signs it needs replacing

Bristles worn below the bumper ring, splayed rows, or grooming that has gone flat while the belt and motor are both fine. A quick check: lay a straight edge across the roll — if the bristles no longer reach it evenly, the roll is done.

Installation and fit

Release the glide sole, lift the old roll clear, cut away hair wrapped at the bearing ends, and seat the new roll with the belt on its pulley. Spin it by hand before closing to confirm it runs free and the belt sits centrally.
