Tornado M Series Floor Machine — 17″ and 20″, Single and Dual Speed
The Tornado M Series Floor Machine is a heavy-duty commercial rotary floor machine built for the most demanding facility environments — industrial facilities, schools, healthcare, hospitality, and large commercial buildings where lighter machines wear out under sustained daily use. The rolled steel base with non-marking soft bumper guards handles the torque forces of sustained stripping and scrubbing without the flex and stress cracking that polymer housings develop in high-intensity applications. The 1.5 HP dual-capacitor motor with high-torque, low-amp-draw configuration delivers full-speed performance through heavy pad resistance without tripping circuit breakers during extended operation. The triple planetary all-steel gear system transmits motor torque to the pad smoothly across years of commercial service. Available in 17″ and 20″ pad sizes, each in Single Speed (175 RPM) or Dual Speed (175/320 RPM) configurations. 2-year parts / 2-year labor warranty on single speed models. Authorized Tornado dealer. Free shipping on orders over $30 to all 50 states.

| 17″ price | $1,199.00 | $1,199.00 |
| 20″ price | $1,069.00 | $1,399.00 |
| Best for | Full floor care program at 175 RPM — stripping, scrubbing, spray buffing | Operations that also need high-speed polishing capability without a separate burnisher |
The single speed machine handles every standard floor care task at 175 RPM — it will strip, scrub, spray buff, and bonnet clean. Choose dual speed when your program also requires high-speed polishing at 320 RPM and you want to do it with one machine rather than owning both a floor machine and a separate burnisher. Note: for dedicated daily high-gloss polishing at 2,000 RPM, a dedicated burnisher is more appropriate than dual speed — see the Tornado Brute Force 2000 Burnisher.
17″ vs 20″ — Choosing Your Pad Size
| Specification | 17″ Models | 20″ Models |
|---|---|---|
| Cleaning path | 17″ | 20″ |
| Weight | 100 lbs | 105 lbs |
| Dimensions (L×W×H) | 23″ × 17″ × 49″ | 26″ × 20″ × 49″ |
| Best for | Restrooms, tight corridors, smaller floor areas | Open hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums — more sq ft per pass |
The 17″ navigates restrooms and tight service corridors where a 20″ pad would contact walls. The 20″ covers 18% more floor per pass on open areas. All other specifications — motor, gears, handle, cord, construction — are identical across pad sizes.
Key Features of the Tornado M Series Floor Machine
Rolled Steel Base — Heavy-Duty Construction
The M Series base is rolled steel with non-marking soft bumper guards. In the most demanding floor care applications — sustained stripping on heavily built-up VCT, industrial facility scrubbing, high-intensity commercial cleaning programs — rolled steel handles torque and contact forces without the flex, cracking, or gear misalignment that develops in polymer machine bodies over time. The bumper guards protect walls, baseboards, and the machine from contact damage during operation. This rolled steel construction is why Tornado positions the M Series specifically for “demanding environments” — it is structurally overbuilt for standard commercial floor care and appropriate for applications that stress lighter machines.
1.5 HP Dual-Capacitor Motor — Sustained Power Through Heavy Applications
The 1.5 HP dual-capacitor motor with high-torque, low-amp-draw configuration provides both the starting torque to spin a heavy stripping brush from a stop under pad resistance, and the running efficiency to sustain full RPM through extended cleaning cycles without excessive current draw that trips 15-amp circuits. In stripping applications — where the machine must overcome the resistance of old floor finish and a stiff stripping pad on dense VCT — the dual-capacitor design maintains consistent speed and power where single-capacitor motors bog down and slow the pad.
Triple Planetary All-Steel Gear System
The triple planetary all-steel gear system distributes torque load across multiple gear contact points simultaneously — reducing wear on individual gears and delivering smooth, consistent pad speed under varying resistance. All-steel construction means no plastic components in the drive train, the most common failure point in lower-grade machines under stripping loads. The planetary design also produces less gear noise and vibration than conventional single-stage gear designs, reducing operator fatigue during long shifts.
Dual Speed — 175 RPM and 320 RPM (Dual Speed Models)
The dual speed models add a 320 RPM high-speed setting in addition to the standard 175 RPM. At 320 RPM the machine delivers ultra high-speed polishing that produces a higher-gloss result on spray buffing passes than 175 RPM alone. The operator switches between speeds depending on the task — 175 RPM for stripping, scrubbing, and standard spray buffing, 320 RPM for high-shine polishing passes where maximum gloss is the goal. This dual-speed versatility means one machine handles both the restorative floor care cycle at 175 RPM and the high-shine finishing work at 320 RPM, without requiring a second dedicated machine for polishing.
Cast Aluminum Start Guard I Handle — Safety and Ergonomics
The cast aluminum Start Guard I handle with cushioned grips positions the operator’s hands so the machine stops automatically if the handle is released — a safety feature that prevents machine runaway on ramps or if the operator stumbles. Cast aluminum provides rigidity to handle torque reaction forces without flex or fatigue cracking. Cushioned grips reduce vibration transmission to the operator’s hands during sustained stripping and scrubbing work. The cam-lever variable height adjustment allows operators of different heights to configure the handle angle for their working posture without tools.
Quick-Grip Pad Holder — Fast Tool-Free Pad Changes
The quick-grip pad holder allows pad changes without tools. In a full floor care program moving between stripping, neutral, finish, and buffing pads, fast pad changes minimize downtime between passes and keep the cleaning program moving. The quick-grip design releases the pad cleanly without direct contact with used stripping or scrubbing pads.
Optional 3-Gallon Solution Tank — Integrated Solution Dispensing
An optional 3-gallon solution tank with variable-rate control attaches to the machine for solution dispensing during scrubbing or bonnet carpet cleaning passes, eliminating a separate solution cart. Available separately — call us at 763-535-0770 to add it to your order.

Frequently Asked Questions — Tornado M Series Floor Machine
What is the difference between single speed and dual speed M Series models?
Single speed models operate at 175 RPM only — suitable for the full floor care cycle of stripping, scrubbing, spray buffing, and bonnet cleaning. Dual speed models add a 320 RPM setting for ultra high-speed polishing, giving one machine the capability to handle both standard floor care at 175 RPM and high-shine polishing at 320 RPM. For dedicated high-gloss work at 2,000 RPM, see the Tornado Brute Force 2000 Burnisher.
What is the difference between the 17″ and 20″ models?
Pad size and footprint only — the 17″ is 100 lbs with a 23″×17″×49″ footprint; the 20″ is 105 lbs with a 26″×20″×49″ footprint. All other specs are identical. Choose the 17″ for restrooms and tight corridors; choose the 20″ for open floor areas where the wider cleaning path reduces total passes needed.
