Tornado 98166 Tank Assembly Parts
Tank assembly parts for the Tornado 98166 Marathon 800. This is the largest section on the machine and the one where the 8-gallon Marathon genuinely differs from its bigger sibling — the tank, the bladder and the frame that carries them are specific to this capacity.
What is in the Tornado 98166 tank assembly
Thirty-eight items make up this section. At its centre is the 8-gallon bladder, together with the tank frame members that support it, the internal and external pipe assemblies that carry solution and recovery, the dome and lid hardware, hose bellows, gaskets, and the fasteners and brackets that hold the whole structure to the chassis.
Which series does this fit?
These parts come from the current Series F parts book for the Marathon 800. Older Series B through Series E machines are built with different assemblies — not simply different part numbers — so an early machine may not take what is listed here. Call 763-535-0770 with your serial number and we will confirm before you order.
The 8-gallon bladder is its own part
This is the single most important thing to get right in this section. The Marathon 800 uses an 8-gallon bladder and the Marathon 1200 uses a 12-gallon one. They are different components with different part numbers, and they are not interchangeable even though they look similar in a photograph. If you are ordering from a parts list for the larger machine, check the number against this section first.
When tank parts need replacing
A bladder that has hardened or split will not hold solution and often shows as a slow loss with no visible external leak. Perished gaskets around the dome and lid let the machine lose vacuum, which shows up as poor water recovery rather than as a leak. Pipe assemblies crack at the elbows, usually where a hose has been pulled sideways rather than straight off.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my Tornado 98166 losing suction?
Nearly always a seal rather than the vacuum motor. Check the tank lid gasket, the lid seal, and the hose bellow where the hose enters the tank, then the intake filter for clogging. These are inexpensive parts and between them they account for the large majority of suction complaints we see.
Which bladder does the Tornado 98166 take?
Current Series F machines take the 8-gallon bladder, part 19215. The earlier Series B through Series E parts books list both the 8-gallon 19215 and the 12-gallon 19264 across the Marathon 800 and Marathon 1200 machines, so on an older machine the right number comes from the book for your series rather than from the capacity on the badge. The two bladders are genuinely different components and one will not serve in place of the other, so if your machine is not Series F call 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will confirm which one it takes.
How often should the tank gaskets be replaced?
Inspect them whenever you have the lids off, and replace any that have gone hard, taken a permanent set or started to crack. On a machine in daily service that tends to be about once a year, and they are cheap enough that replacing early is the sensible call.
