The Tornado Nozzle 20″ Aluminum (part# 19168) is the genuine Tacony OEM vacuum nozzle that meets the carpet across the machine’s full 20-inch cleaning width. It is the last component in the recovery path and the one doing the actual work of lifting solution back out of the pile, which is why a nozzle that is bent, worn thin at the lip or distorted from being dropped costs more pickup than almost any other single fault. Tacony notes that it should be ordered together with part 19197, the nozzle hose adapter tube.

An aluminium nozzle does not fail so much as gradually stop sealing. Run a fingertip along the lip: if it has worn to a knife edge in the middle and is still square at the ends, the nozzle has been dragged rather than floated, and it will leave a wet stripe down the centre of every pass. A nozzle that has been dropped shows the opposite pattern — good in the middle, lifted at one corner — and leaves the stripe at the edge.

Before ordering, check the cheaper causes of the same complaint. A flattened base plate shroud gasket, a worn bearing block letting the head sit unevenly, or a partially blocked recovery hose all produce poor or uneven pickup, and all cost a fraction of a nozzle. The nozzle is the answer when the lip itself is visibly out of true.

Fit it with the machine unplugged and the head supported. Order 19197 alongside it as Tacony advises: the adapter tube is the joint between nozzle and hose, and refitting a new nozzle to a tired adapter is how an expensive repair ends up still leaking air.

Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956 and can confirm the right nozzle and adapter for your serial number. Browse every assembly for this machine on the Tornado 98168 Marathon 1200 parts hub, and see the manufacturer’s range at tornadovac.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Nozzle 20″ Aluminum (part# 19168) do on a Tornado carpet extractor?

It is the 20-inch recovery nozzle that meets the carpet and lifts cleaning solution back out of the pile. It is the final component in the recovery path, so its condition sets how dry the carpet is left.

How do I know if my 20″ nozzle needs replacing?

Run a finger along the lip. Worn thin in the middle and square at the ends means it has been dragged, and it will leave a wet stripe down the centre of each pass. Lifted at one corner usually means it has been dropped. Rule out a flattened shroud gasket, a worn bearing block and a blocked recovery hose first — all are cheaper and produce the same complaint.
