The washer under fan (part# A733-3300) is the flat steel washer that sits on the motor shaft directly beneath the fan on Tacony-built ultra-lightweight uprights with TEK motors. It spaces the fan correctly off the motor and distributes the load when the fan is clamped down. Tacony catalogues it as a ULW washer behind the fan, for TEK motors only.

What the washer under fan does

It is a spacer and a load spreader. On the shaft it sets the gap between the motor and the back face of the fan so the fan sits centred in its scroll housing, and when the fan nut is torqued it spreads that clamping force evenly across the fan hub instead of concentrating it on a small ring of metal. Because it is steel and flat, it also gives the fan a true seat to run against at full motor speed.

Signs the washer under fan needs replacing

You will usually meet this part during a fan or motor job rather than on its own. Replace it if it is dished, scored, discoloured by heat, or no longer sits flat on a hard surface. A fan that has come loose in service, a rattle or whine that appeared after a previous fan change, or visible fretting marks around the shaft bore are all reasons to fit a new washer rather than reuse the old one.

Installation and fit

Unplug the machine first. The washer is reached with the nozzle apart and the scroll housing open, and it comes off the shaft once the fan nut and fan are removed. Note the order it came apart in — washer under fan against the motor, then the fan, then the washer over fan and the nut — and rebuild in the same order. Do not overtighten: the fan should be firm on the shaft, not crushed.
