The Vacuum Motor (part# 31540) is the genuine Tacony OEM suction motor for the Tornado CK 3030 wide-area vacuum (Model 93030). It is the component that creates the airflow the whole machine depends on.
A wide-area vacuum runs two separate motors: this one pulls air through the nozzle, bag and filters, while a second drives the brush roll. The vacuum motor is a through-flow design — the air it moves also cools it — which is why filter condition matters so much to motor life. A clogged bag or a blinded pre-filter starves the motor of the very airflow that keeps its temperature down, and a motor run hot for long enough will fail at the bearings or the armature.
Symptoms of a failing vacuum motor are a marked drop in suction with a clean bag, clear hose and sound seals; a rising or screeching pitch as the bearings dry out; a burning smell; visible carbon dust around the exhaust; or intermittent running as the brushes wear down. Because motor failure is usually the end point of a filtration problem, fit new filters and check every seal at the same time — otherwise the replacement motor meets the same conditions that killed the first one.
Compatible Models for the Vacuum Motor
This part is confirmed on the Series G parts diagram for this machine. The CK 3030 was built in several series (D through J) and Tacony shares most of this hardware across the Tornado, CleanMax, Riccar, Simplicity and Powr-Flite ranges, so wider fitment is likely but is not yet confirmed here. Call 763-535-0770 with your machine’s series letter and we will confirm before you order.
Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tacony equipment since 1956 and stocks the genuine 31540 part. Browse the full Tornado 93030 main assembly parts, or read more on the Tornado manufacturer site.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Vacuum Motor do on the Tornado 93030?
It generates the suction., it draws air through the nozzle, bag and filters and out through the exhaust, carrying debris into the bag. It is separate from the brush motor, which drives the roll.
How do I know if my Vacuum Motor needs replacing?
Look for suction that has dropped with a clean bag, clear hose and good seals; a rising or screeching pitch; a burning smell; carbon dust at the exhaust; or the motor cutting in and out. Rule out bag, filter and seal problems first — they cause most suction complaints and they are what kills motors.
Can I fit a vacuum motor myself?
It is a job for someone comfortable working inside a mains-powered machine: the motor sits under the housing with its own gasket and wiring, and the gasket must seal properly on reassembly or the new motor will not pull full suction. If you are not confident, our service department fits them — call 763-535-0770.
