The Axle (part# B010-0900) carries the wheels on the base of the Tornado CK-LW 13/1 ProLite, models 97130 (115V) and 97131 (230V), and of the Powr-Flite PF62EC.

An axle is a part nobody thinks about until a wheel starts to wobble. What wears is the bearing surface, and it wears in a very particular way on a vacuum: hair and string wind round the axle behind the wheel, pack solid, and act as an abrasive paste that cuts a groove. Once the axle is grooved, the wheel sits in that groove and the nozzle height is no longer what the factory set.

Inspecting it

Pull the wheels and run a fingernail along the axle. It should feel smooth for its whole length; a step or a ridge you can catch a nail on means the bearing surface is gone. Look for scoring and for any bend, which shows up as a wheel that tracks in and out as it turns. Fit new wheels on a grooved axle and they will be loose within weeks, so it is worth changing both together when you find wear.

The best prevention is routine: clear hair and string from the axle every time the brush roll comes out. It takes a moment and it is what stops the wear starting.

Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956. Call 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number and we will confirm the part before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which machines does this axle fit?

The Tornado CK-LW 13/1 ProLite, models 97130 and 97131, and the Powr-Flite PF62EC.

Should I replace the wheels at the same time?

If the axle is grooved, yes. New wheels on a worn axle go loose again quickly. The front wheel is part number B010-1414.

How do I stop it wearing again?

Clear hair and string from behind the wheels every time the brush roll is out. Packed hair acts as an abrasive and is what cuts the groove in the first place.
