Cable Clamp A090-0100

The Cable Clamp (part# A090-0100) secures the power cord where it passes into the machine on the Tornado CK-LW 13/1 ProLite, models 97130 (115V) and 97131 (230V), and on the Powr-Flite PF62EC.

A cable clamp is a safety part disguised as a trivial one. Its whole purpose is to make sure that when someone pulls the cord — and on a commercial floor someone always does — the load is taken by the clamp and the cord jacket rather than by the conductors terminated at the switch. Remove the clamp and the first hard tug lands directly on the terminals. That is how a machine develops an intermittent switch, then a short.

Fitting and inspection

The clamp is fitted with a screw, part number A090-0200 on this breakdown. Any time the handle is opened for a switch or cord job, check that the clamp is present, that it is tight, and that it is gripping the jacket rather than pinching it. A clamp done up hard enough to crush the insulation is as bad as no clamp at all. If the cord jacket is flattened or shiny where the clamp sits, look closely at the conductors before reassembling.
