Caster Assembly 39271

This is the caster assembly from the Tornado TV 2 SS dry canister and the Simplicity Brio. It is the swivelling wheel that lets the canister follow the operator, and it is a different part from the fixed wheel kit on the rear.

What the Caster Assembly Does

A canister vacuum gets pulled along behind the operator all day, and the caster is what lets it turn corners instead of being dragged sideways. When it stiffens or seizes, the machine fights every turn, tips more easily and scuffs floors — and the operator ends up pulling harder on the hose, which is what breaks hose cuffs and inlets.

It is fitted to the base of the canister, shown on the TV 2 SS main assembly diagram between the wheel kit and the base assembly.

When to Replace It

Replace the caster when the swivel has stiffened or seized, when the wheel has worn flat or picked up a permanent flat spot, or when carpet fibre has wound into the bearing and will not clear. A machine that suddenly wants to tip on turns is usually telling you the caster has stopped swivelling freely.

Fitting Notes

Clear any wound fibre from the mounting area while the caster is out. Check that it swivels through a full turn freely by hand after fitting, and roll the machine on a flat floor to confirm it tracks and turns without resistance before putting it back to work.

Most often a caster that has stopped swivelling freely. When it will not turn, the machine has to be dragged sideways round a corner and it tips. Spin it by hand — it should rotate smoothly through a full turn and the wheel should roll without resistance.

Is the caster the same as the wheel kit?

No. The wheel kit, part number 39270, is the pair of fixed rear wheels and fits the Tornado TV 2 SS only. The caster, 39271, is the swivelling wheel and is shared with the Simplicity Brio.
