What the filter cap does
The filter cap is a clamping part, not just a lid. Behind it sit the HEPA filter (B352-5200) and the filter plate (B352-0800), and it is the cap’s closing pressure that holds that stack squarely against its sealing face. If the cap is not applying even pressure, dirty air finds the gap and bypasses the filter entirely — which on a backpack machine means it goes straight out of the exhaust at the operator’s shoulder.
It also protects the filter physically. The cap takes knocks that would otherwise land on the pleated media, and it keeps the filter compartment closed when the machine is set down or leaned against a wall.
When the filter cap needs replacing
Replace it if the latching tabs are broken or rounded off, if the cap is cracked, if it has bowed so it no longer sits flat, or if it will not stay closed on its own. Any of those means the filter stack underneath is no longer being clamped properly. A useful test: fit a known-good HEPA filter, close the cap, and see whether you can rock it — a cap that moves is a cap that is letting air past.
Inspect the cap whenever you change filters, and check the filter plate and body seal at the same time. Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado and CleanMax equipment since 1956. Frequently Asked Questions
What does the filter cap (part# B352-1000) do?
It closes the HEPA filter compartment and clamps the filter and filter plate against their sealing face. Its closing pressure is what stops dirty air bypassing the filter.
How do I know if my filter cap (part# B352-1000) needs replacing?
Broken or rounded latching tabs, cracks, a bowed cap that will not sit flat, or one that will not stay closed. If you can rock the cap with a good filter fitted, it is no longer clamping properly.
Is the filter cap (part# B352-1000) the same as the filter plate?
No. The cap is the outer cover, part# B352-1000. The filter plate is part# B352-0800 and sits inside against the filter. They are separate parts and are often replaced together.
How do I order the filter cap (part# B352-1000) or get help?
