Nipple Hex 1/4″ MPT 7CX002
$6.99
Genuine OEM hex nipple (part# 7CX002) for commercial carpet extractor plumbing — a double-ended 1/4″ MPT nipple with a wrench hex in the middle. Fits 24 Tornado and Powr-Flite machines, including the Tornado Marathon SE 900 (Model 98170) and the Powr-Flite Prowler PFX900S; full list below.
The Hex Nipple 1/4″ MPT (part# 7CX002) is a genuine OEM plumbing nipple used throughout the solution circuits of Tornado and Powr-Flite commercial carpet extractors. It is male pipe thread at both ends with a wrench hex between them, so it can be torqued properly rather than gripped and marked.
What the 7CX002 hex nipple does
Extractor plumbing is assembled from a short vocabulary of threaded parts, and the nipple is the one that joins two female ports directly to each other. On these machines that usually means tying a pump outlet, a solenoid valve body, a heater fitting or a pressure gauge port into the next item in the run. Because it sits in the pressurised side of the circuit, the quality of its two seals decides whether the machine holds spray pressure.
When to replace the 7CX002 nipple
Replace it when a joint weeps after a proper re-seal, when the hex has been rounded, when a thread is stripped, cross-threaded or corroded, or when the bore has narrowed with mineral scale. A nipple is one of the cheapest parts in the machine and one of the most awkward to get back to, so if you have the plumbing apart it is worth renewing any that look tired rather than refitting them.
Specification
Hex nipple, 1/4″ MPT both ends, with a central wrench hex. Seal with PTFE tape or a liquid thread sealant rated for the temperature your machine runs; heated extractors in this fitment list run hot enough that a low-temperature sealant will creep.
Fitment
This is one of the most widely shared fittings across the Tornado and Powr-Flite commercial ranges. It appears on 24 machines spanning both the Tornado and Powr-Flite lines, so the part carries no brand in its name. Fitment below is taken directly from Where-Used.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the hex nipple 7CX002 do in a carpet extractor?
It joins two female-threaded fittings back to back. Both ends are 1/4 in. male pipe thread and the raised hex in the middle gives a wrench a flat to pull against, which is what separates it from a plain close nipple. In these machines it most often links a pump port, a solenoid valve body or a heater fitting to the next item in the solution run.
How do I know if 7CX002 needs replacing?
Replace it when a thread weeps under pressure after a correct re-seal, when the hex is rounded off, when a thread is stripped or cross-threaded, or when the bore has silted up with scale. Steel and brass nipples also corrode at the first exposed thread, and a nipple that snaps while being removed has usually been telling you for a while through a slow weep.
Is 7CX002 the same as a close nipple?
No. A close nipple is threaded end to end with no flat to grip, so it has to be turned with pipe grips that mark it. 7CX002 carries a hex between the two threaded ends, which lets it be torqued properly with a spanner and makes it the right choice where a joint has to be broken and remade during service.
What models is the hex nipple (part# 7CX002) compatible with?
It appears on 24 machines across both the Tornado and Powr-Flite ranges, from the Marathon and PRO box extractors through the Cascade and Surge lines to the Pulsar extractors and the Prowler PFX900S. The full list is above. Because it is a standard plumbing nipple it may appear on further machines; call us and we will confirm against your serial number.
