Note that this part is used on corded machines only. The battery-powered Pac-Vac 6 Roam (93016) uses a different switching arrangement and does not take this harness.

Why it comes as a harness rather than a bare switch

Tacony supplies the switch already wired to its leads and terminals. That matters more than it sounds. A bare switch would mean cutting, stripping and re-terminating mains wiring inside a machine that gets carried on somebody’s back and flexed all day, and a hand-made joint in that environment is the thing most likely to fail next.

With the complete harness the repair becomes unplug, plug in, done, and the connections are factory-made to the same spec as the original.

When to replace the switch harness

Replace it if the machine cuts out or flickers when the switch or the cord near it is moved, if the switch feels mushy or no longer clicks positively, if it has to be held or wiggled to keep the motor running, or if the switch or its surround shows any heat discolouration, melting or a burnt smell.

Heat damage is not a wait-and-see item. Discolouration around a switch means resistance is building at a connection, and resistance in a mains-carrying part means heat. Take the machine out of service until it is repaired.

If the machine is dead rather than intermittent, check the power cord (part# B352-3200) and the strain relief (part# B352-6800) as well. Those three parts share the same electrical path and the same working life.
