The Tether Lanyard (part# X2330) is the genuine Tacony OEM retaining lanyard used across the Marathon / PFX900S extractor family. Tacony lists it as Tether, 18-8 SS Lanyard, Loop-to-Eye, 12In Long, 1/16In Rope Dia, PVC Coated — a 12-inch stainless rope with a formed loop at each end, jacketed in PVC so it will not scratch a tank or housing as it swings.
Its job is to keep a small removable part captive. A drain cap, fill plug or lid that is tethered cannot be set down on a job site and forgotten, which is the usual way these parts go missing. The 18-8 stainless construction is there because this is a wet-side component — it lives around solution and recovery tanks and has to shrug off water and cleaning chemistry without rusting through.
