The bottom housing (part# K40620070) is the genuine Tacony lower brush-head shell for the 15-inch machines. It is the part the brush roll, the bearings, the glide sole and the bumper all mount into, and it is the part that takes the abuse when the head meets a door frame or a loading-dock lip.

This is a genuine Tacony OEM part. It appears on the 15-inch brush head sheet. The 19-inch machines use a different housing, K40620090, and the two are not interchangeable.

Both machines are 15-inch dual-motor HEPA uprights. If your machine is a 19-inch CV 48/2 or CVD 48/2, you need K40620090 instead — it is the same part in the wider size and it carries a different number for that reason.

What the bottom housing does

The housing is the structural floor of the brush head. It holds the brush roll at the right height above the carpet, keeps the bearing seats square so the roll spins true, and forms the suction path from the floor up into the machine. If it is cracked or distorted, the brush height goes out, the seal leaks and the machine stops picking up properly even with a new brush roll fitted.

Signs it needs replacing

Visible cracks around the bearing seats or the mounting bosses, a brush roll that will not sit level, a head that rocks on the floor, or pickup that has fallen off while the brush and belt both look fine. Impact damage from doorways and dock plates is the usual cause on a machine that has been on a route for a few years.

Installation and fit

The head comes apart from underneath: remove the glide sole and the brush access cover, lift out the brush roll, then transfer the bearings, adjusting wheel and pedal hardware across to the new housing. Work on a bench with the machine unplugged, and keep the screws grouped by where they came from — the housing uses more than one length.

No. The 19-inch machines take K40620090. The two housings are the same design in different widths, and the 15-inch shell will not span a 19-inch brush roll.

How do I tell which width I have?

Check the catalog number on the data plate. 91415 and 91440 are 15-inch; 91419 and 91442 are 19-inch. Measuring the brush roll works too, but the plate is faster and more certain.

Does the housing come with bearings or a brush roll?

No. It is the bare shell. The bearings, brush roll, glide sole, bumper and pedal hardware transfer across from your old housing or are ordered separately.

Is it worth replacing a cracked housing?

Usually yes. A cracked housing throws the brush height out and leaks suction, so the machine cleans badly no matter what else you fit. Replacing it restores the geometry the rest of the head depends on.
