Tornado Closed End Crimp Terminal Insulated 06824
Genuine Tornado OEM insulated closed-end crimp terminal (part# 06824) — a barrel closed at one end inside an insulating sleeve that joins two or more conductors and caps the join in a single crimp, leaving no second opening for moisture. A single-use fitting: cut it off and replace it whenever a join is taken apart. Factory-order item: call 763-535-0770 for current pricing. Fitted across 73 Tornado machines including the PS Spotter 98220 — see the compatibility note below.
The Tornado Closed End Crimp Terminal Insulated 06824 is the genuine OEM insulated closed-end connector used in the wiring of the PS Series professional spotters. It is the fitting that joins two or more conductors and seals the join in one operation. It also fits the Tornado PS8226 Spotter 98226, the 230-volt build of the deluxe PS Series spotter.
Compatible Models for the Closed End Crimp Terminal
- Tornado PS Spotter 98220 — PS Series professional spotter, 115V
- Tornado PS8221 Spotter 98221 — the 230-volt deluxe spotter, Series G
- Tornado PS8225 Spotter 98225 — the deluxe PS Series spotter, Series C and Series D & E
- Tornado PS8226 Spotter 98226 — the 230-volt build of the deluxe PS Series spotter, Series D & E
The 230-volt PS8221 Spotter 98221 uses the same closed-end crimp terminal on its wiring diagram, in the Series G book.
The deluxe PS8225 Spotter 98225 uses the same closed-end crimp terminal on its wiring diagram, in both the Series C and the Series D & E book.
This is a very widely shared electrical fitting: Tornado’s factory cross-reference lists it on seventy-three machines, which is far more than the cross-reference will display at one time, so an enumerated list would be incomplete and misleading. Within the window it returns we can see it across Tornado floor machines and polishers as well as the spotters. Call us at 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number and we will confirm it against the current catalog before you order.
What a closed-end connector is and why it is used here
A closed-end crimp terminal — sometimes called a pigtail or a CE connector — is a metal barrel closed at one end inside an insulating sleeve. Conductors are inserted from the open end and the barrel is crimped once, which both joins them electrically and caps the join.
The “closed end” is the whole point. A butt splice has two openings and joins two wires end to end; this joins conductors coming from the same direction and leaves no second opening for moisture to enter. In a machine that is wet by design, that difference matters: a join made with tape or with an open connector is a place for damp, detergent-laden air to reach bare copper and start corroding it from the inside, which shows up months later as a high-resistance connection that heats.
The insulation is part of the fitting, not an addition to it. A bare closed-end barrel inside a crowded enclosure can touch something it should not; the sleeve is what makes the join safe to pack against other wiring.
When to replace it
A crimp connector is a single-use fitting. Once crimped, the barrel is permanently deformed around the conductors, and it cannot be opened and re-crimped with any confidence. Whenever a join made with one is taken apart, the connector is cut off and replaced — not reused.
Replace one in service if the sleeve is cracked, split, melted or heat-discoloured; if the barrel is visible through damaged insulation; if there is any sign of heat, which on a crimp means resistance where there should be none; if it is corroded or green; or if the join is loose when the wires are pulled gently.
That pull test is the useful one. A sound crimp does not move. A crimp that lets a conductor slide, even slightly, was never properly made or has been disturbed, and it will become a hot joint.
Fitting notes
Isolate the machine from the mains before the cover comes off and keep it isolated throughout.
Use a proper crimp tool with the correct die for the connector. This is the single most important thing about fitting one: pliers will close the barrel enough to hold the wires and will not produce the cold-weld a ratchet crimper does, and a join made with pliers is the classic cause of a connection that works for a few months and then starts to heat. Strip the conductors to the depth the barrel takes, insert all of them fully so no bare copper is left outside the sleeve, and crimp once.
Pull-test the finished join before it goes back in. Route it where it cannot be chafed or pinched as the cover closes, and fit a new cover gasket so the enclosure seals again. Test on an earth-leakage protected supply before the machine returns to service.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Closed End Crimp Terminal for?
It joins two or more conductors coming from the same direction and caps the join in one crimp. The closed end leaves no second opening for moisture, which matters on a machine that is wet by design — an open or taped join lets damp, detergent-laden air reach bare copper and corrode it from the inside.
Can I reuse a Closed End Crimp Terminal?
No. Crimping permanently deforms the barrel around the conductors and it cannot be opened and re-crimped with any confidence. Whenever a join made with one is taken apart, cut the connector off and fit a new one.
Do I need a proper crimp tool?
Yes, and it is the most important part of fitting one. Pliers will close the barrel enough to hold the wires without producing the cold-weld a ratchet crimper gives, and a join made that way is the classic cause of a connection that works for months and then begins to heat. Pull-test every finished join — a sound crimp does not move at all.
