Tornado PS Series Spotter parts — Models 98220 and 98225
Every part on this page fits the Tornado PS Series Spotter: Model 98220, the base machine, or Model 98225, the Deluxe. Both are 2-gallon carpet spotters and they share most of their parts. Browse the assemblies on the Tornado PS Series Spotter parts hub, which routes you to the right factory drawing, or open the 98220 main assembly or the 98225 main assembly directly.
Which PS Series spotter do I have?
Start with the plate. Tornado’s own operating instructions for this spotter say to look for a white metal plate or sticker on the unit, and the factory parts book places that serial-number label on the solution tank — the tank body itself, near the switch and the cord. The model number printed on it is the whole answer. Take the serial number down while you are there; it is what we ask for on the phone.
Base or Deluxe. If the plate is gone, you are deciding between the base 98220 and the Deluxe 98225, and from the outside they are close to identical — same body, same 2-gallon solution and recovery tanks, and the steel transport handle is an option on both rather than standard on either. What separates them is inside: the solution pump and the vacuum motor. The one outside difference the factory manual notes is that on the Deluxe the solution hose connects to a fitting on the front of the solution tank. If that does not settle it, do not guess — call 763-535-0770 with the serial number off the plate and we will tell you which machine you have before you order.
- 98220 — PS Spotter, the base machine, 2 gallon, parts book Series G
- 98225 — PS8225 Spotter Deluxe, 2 gallon, parts book Series D & E
What the two machines share
The 98220 and the 98225 come from different factory parts books, but the overlap is large. Both tanks, the solution and vacuum hoses, the intake and filter screens, the gaskets, the wheels, the latch hardware and the rocker switch are common to both. The positions where they genuinely differ are the solution pump and the vacuum motor, which is why those two are worth checking against your model number rather than ordering on sight.
Each product on this page carries its own Compatible Models list naming exactly which machine it fits, so the model-specific detail lives on the part, where it stays accurate. That is also why these two models sit in one category instead of two thin ones — you see every part that fits your machine in one place.
Parts that wear on a PS Series spotter
The parts that fail are the ones that flex, seal or carry current. The vacuum hose and the solution hose take the most abuse, and a split hose presents exactly like a failing vacuum motor while costing a fraction as much to put right — check them end to end, flexing as you go, before suspecting the motor. The intake screen and solution filter screen are cheap and worth replacing on schedule. The motor top and bottom gaskets are the quiet one: a perished gasket lets the motor draw air from around itself instead of through the hose. The rocker switch and the crimp terminals behind it are the usual culprits when a machine runs, stops and runs again.
Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956, and our staff at 5415 West Broadway, Crystal, MN 55428 can confirm a part against your serial number before you order. Tornado PS Series Spotter Parts – Frequently Asked Questions
Which Tornado PS Series spotter do I have?
Look for the white metal plate or sticker on the machine. Tornado's own operating instructions point you there, and the parts book places that serial-number label on the solution tank, near the switch and the cord. The model number on it is the answer: 98220 for the base machine, 98225 for the Deluxe. If the plate is gone, call 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will identify the machine for you.
Is my spotter the base 98220 or the Deluxe 98225?
From the outside the two are nearly identical. Both are 2-gallon machines with the same tanks, and the steel transport handle is an option on both rather than standard on either. The real differences are internal, in the solution pump and the vacuum motor. The one outside difference the factory manual notes is that on the Deluxe the solution hose connects to a fitting on the front of the solution tank. Rather than guess, read the model number off the plate, or call 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will confirm it.
Do parts for the 98220 also fit the 98225?
Most of them do. The two machines come from different factory parts books but share the great majority of their parts, including both tanks, the hoses, the screens, the gaskets and the switch. The solution pump and the vacuum motor are the positions where they differ. Every product page lists exactly which machine that part fits, so you can check before you order.
My part is not on any of the diagrams. What now?
Call us. The factory books do not number every piece, and some assemblies are sold complete rather than as separate parts. Our staff can identify a part from a photograph or from the serial number off the plate, and tell you whether it is available on its own or only as part of a larger assembly. Call 763-535-0770.
Why is there one category for both models?
Because the parts overlap almost completely. One category with accurate per-product fitment is more useful than two near-identical ones, and it means you see every part that fits your machine in one place.
