What the Detailer Utility Tool is for
A spotter earns its keep on small, awkward areas: vehicle interiors, stair treads and nosings, seat seams, headliners, office-chair backs, car pillars. The standard upholstery tool is too wide for most of that. This tool trades coverage for access — a narrow head that gets into a seam or a corner, sprays solution into it, and lifts it straight back out on the same pass.
That matters because detail areas are exactly where overwetting does the most damage. Spraying a seam with a wide tool and extracting it afterwards leaves solution in the foam and the stitching, which wicks back as a ring hours later. A narrow head that sprays and extracts at the same point puts in only what it takes straight back out.
Using it well
Work in short overlapping passes and let the head sit flat against the surface so the vacuum path seals — a tool held at an angle sprays more than it recovers. Make a dry pass after the wet one on anything you cannot leave damp, particularly automotive foam and headliners.
Keep the jet clear. A detail tool has a small orifice and is the first thing on the machine to block, usually with chemistry that has dried in it between jobs. Flush the tool with clean water at the end of every job rather than leaving solution standing in the line, and check the jet pattern each time you fit it.
When to replace it
Replace the tool when the head has cracked or distorted so it no longer seals against the surface, when the clear section has crazed badly enough that you cannot see what is being recovered, when the trigger valve leaks or will not shut off, or when the jet cannot be cleared and the spray stays uneven after flushing. A tool that will not seal recovers almost nothing, and an uneven jet puts solution where you are not extracting it.
What you need to use it
This is a tool, not a complete kit. It connects to the machine through the vacuum and solution hose assembly, so check what hose your machine is fitted with and whether the fittings on this tool match it before ordering. Call us with your model and serial number if you are not sure — a tool that does not mate with your hose is the most common avoidable return on an accessory like this.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Detailer Utility Tool 98341 do?
It is a narrow combined spray-and-extract head for detail work — seat seams, stair nosings, pillars, headliners and other places a full-size upholstery tool will not reach. It sprays solution and lifts it back out at the same point, which is what keeps detail areas from being overwetted.
Does the Detailer Utility Tool come with the machine?
No. The factory lists it as an option and accessory, not as standard equipment. It is also not a complete kit — it connects through the machine’s vacuum and solution hose, so check that the fittings match your hose before ordering, or call us with your serial number and we will check it.
How do I know if the Detailer Utility Tool needs replacing?
Replace it when the head is cracked or distorted so it no longer seals flat against the surface, when the clear section has crazed so you cannot see what is being recovered, when the trigger valve leaks or will not shut off, or when the jet cannot be cleared and the spray stays uneven after flushing with clean water.
