Tornado Drag Wand Nozzle and Jet 983476M-05

Genuine Tornado OEM nozzle and jet supplied together as one matched service part (part# 983476M-05) for the PS Series drag wand 98347. The jet lays solution down in a fan of a particular width and the nozzle slot is sized to recover exactly that fan, so the two work as a pair and wear on roughly the same timetable — this number puts the business end of the wand back to standard in one go. Factory-order item: call 763-535-0770 for current pricing. Fits the Tornado PS Spotter 98220 and the Mini-Marathon 98150.

The Tornado Drag Wand Nozzle and Jet 983476M-05 is the genuine OEM nozzle-and-jet set for the PS Series drag wand — the two parts that do the actual cleaning, supplied together as one matched service part.

Compatible Models for the Drag Wand Nozzle and Jet

  • Tornado PS Spotter 98220 — PS Series Professional Spotter (2 gal, 115V), Series G
  • Tornado Mini-Marathon 98150 — compact carpet extractor

Tornado’s factory cross-reference for this set is complete rather than truncated: two machines, the PS Spotter 98220 and the Mini-Marathon 98150. It is a service part for the PS Series Drag Wand 98347 rather than for the machine directly. Call us at 763-535-0770 with your model and serial number if yours is not listed.

It is not currently listed in the dealer catalog we price from, which is why there is no price shown here. Call 763-535-0770 and we will quote it and confirm availability.

Why Tornado sells the pair together

The nozzle and the jet are separate parts with separate part numbers, and they can be bought separately. This number buys both at once — and there is a reason that option exists rather than being a bundle for convenience.

The two work as a matched pair. The jet lays solution down in a fan of a particular width and flow, and the nozzle slot is sized to recover that fan: the slot’s opening, position and lip geometry are what turn the recovery airflow into enough velocity to lift what the jet just put down. Get them out of step — a worn jet throwing wider than the slot recovers, or a nozzle whose lip no longer seals under the spray — and the wand lays down more than it picks up, which means wetter carpet and longer drying whatever the machine’s gauges say.

They also wear on roughly the same timetable, because they are in the same place doing related work on the same jobs. So when a wand has been in service long enough for one to be past its best, the other usually is too.

Buy the pair when the wand has done real mileage and you want the business end back to standard in one go. Buy the individual parts when you have diagnosed one specific fault — an uneven spray pattern on its own is the jet, poor recovery with normal suction on its own is the nozzle.

When to replace both

Fit the pair if the wand sprays unevenly and recovers poorly; if it has been in heavy service for a long time and has never had either part replaced; if you do not know its history, which is common on a used machine; or if you are putting a wand back into service after it has been sitting, where scale and dried detergent have usually affected both.

Fit the pair as well if an attempt has already been made to clear the jet with wire, a pin or a drill, since that permanently alters the orifice and puts it out of step with the nozzle even when the spray looks acceptable.

Signs that point to both: streaky or striped results on finished carpet, drying times that have crept up, carpet coming up wetter than it used to at the same pump pressure, and a spray pattern that is visibly not the even fan it should be when checked over a drain.

Fitting notes

Depressurise the system and drain the solution line before starting, and let the machine cool.

Note the orientation of both parts before removing them. The nozzle is not symmetrical and a fan jet has to be clocked correctly relative to the head — fitted square but rotated wrongly, the pattern lands across the wrong axis and the nozzle cannot recover it. Clean both seats so nothing holds either part off its seal.

Fit by hand and nip up gently with the correct tool. Both are small threaded parts in comparatively soft bodies: the seal comes from the seat, not from force, and a housing cracked by over-torquing is an avoidable and expensive mistake.

Then test over a drain or a bucket before you go near carpet. The spray should be an even fan with no gaps, heavy edges or stray streams, and a pass on an offcut should come up materially drier than it did before. Lay the head on a flat surface and sight along the lip — no daylight underneath.

Flush the wand with clean water at the end of each day. Detergent left to dry narrows a jet orifice and a nozzle slot unevenly, which undoes a new set faster than wear does.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Drag Wand Nozzle and Jet 983476M-05?

Both the nozzle and the jet, supplied together as one service part. They are also available individually under their own part numbers — this number is for replacing the pair at once.

Should I buy the pair or just the one part I think has failed?

Buy the individual part when you have diagnosed one specific fault: an uneven spray pattern on its own is the jet, poor recovery with normal suction on its own is the nozzle. Buy the pair when the wand has done real mileage, when you do not know its history, or when it sprays badly and recovers badly — the two wear on roughly the same timetable because they are in the same place doing related work.

Does it matter that the nozzle and jet are matched?

Yes. The jet lays solution down in a fan of a particular width and flow and the nozzle slot is sized to recover exactly that fan. Out of step — a worn jet throwing wider than the slot recovers, or a lip that no longer seals — the wand lays down more than it picks up, which means wetter carpet and longer drying whatever the gauges read.
