The Tornado Electrical Components Cover X9542 is the genuine OEM cover that encloses the electrical components on the Series G build of the PS Spotter 98220. Tornado’s dealer catalog lists it as “Electrical Components Cover”, and it seals against its own gasket, part number X9571.

- Tornado PS Spotter 98220 — PS Series professional spotter, 115V, Series G only
This is a Series G part. Tornado’s factory cross-reference returns the Series G build of the 98220 and nothing else, which is consistent with the Series G revision introducing a reworked electrical enclosure. If your serial label shows Series C, D, E or F, this is not your cover — call us at 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will read the series off it and find the right part.
What the cover does
A carpet spotter is a wet machine with mains electricity inside it, and this cover is the barrier between the two. It encloses the switch, the filter and the terminal connections on the Series G chassis, and with its gasket it keeps solution, splash and the moist air inside the housing away from live components.
That makes it a safety part rather than a cosmetic one. An enclosure that is cracked, missing or fitted without its gasket lets moisture reach terminals that are at mains potential, and the failure mode is not a gradual loss of performance — it is a tripped breaker, a corroded connection or a shock risk. It is also the part that keeps detergent vapour off the switch contacts, which is why a machine run without it tends to develop switch faults.
When to replace it
Replace the cover if it is cracked anywhere, if a mounting boss has broken or pulled through, if the sealing face is distorted so the gasket can no longer close against it, or if there is any sign of heat damage, scorching or melting around the switch aperture — the last of those means something electrical has run hot and the cover is the least of what wants checking.
Replace it on sight if it is missing. A machine found in service without its electrical cover should not go back out until the cover and its gasket are fitted. Also renew it if corrosion inside the enclosure shows that moisture has been getting past a tired seal for some time; a new gasket on a warped cover will not stop that.
Fitting notes
Isolate the machine from the mains before the cover comes off, and keep it isolated until the new one is on. Fit a new gasket (part number X9571) with the cover rather than reusing the old one — it has taken its set around the old cover’s face and is the most likely route for moisture to find its way back in. Clean the sealing face down to bare material, seat the cover fully home before drawing the fasteners, and bring them up evenly so the gasket compresses square. Check the routing of any wiring that passes the edge of the cover so nothing is pinched as it closes.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Electrical Components Cover X9542 do?
It encloses the switch, filter and terminal connections on the Series G chassis and, with its gasket, keeps solution, splash and moist air away from live mains components. It is a safety part, not a cosmetic one.
Will the Electrical Components Cover fit my Tornado 98220?
Only if your serial label shows Series G. Tornado’s cross-reference returns this cover for the Series G build and no other, because the Series G revision reworked the electrical enclosure. Call us at 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will read the series off it.
Do I need the gasket as well?
Yes — fit a new one. The cover seals against gasket X9571, and the old gasket has taken a permanent set around the previous cover’s face. Reusing it is the most likely route for moisture to get back into the enclosure.
