The Tornado 230V solution pump (part# 32227) is the genuine OEM pump fitted to the 230-volt Marathon carpet extractors. Rated at 100 P.S.I. and built for 230VAC at 50/60 Hz, it draws cleaning solution from the tank and pressurises it so the spray bar can lay down an even, consistent pattern ahead of the brush roller. Without pressure at the nozzles the machine still vacuums, but it stops cleaning.

This is the 230-volt pump. It is not interchangeable with the pump used on the 115-volt machines, the 98166 Marathon 800 and the 98168 Marathon 1200 — those carry their own part number. Match the pump to the machine’s supply voltage, not simply to the model family.
When the Tornado 230V solution pump needs replacing
Weak spray is the symptom operators notice first, but the pump is rarely the cause. Check the in-line strainer for clogging, the spray nozzles for blockage and the fittings for leaks that bleed off pressure before you condemn the pump — those three account for most spray complaints and all are far cheaper to put right. Suspect the pump itself when it runs but will not build pressure, when it is noticeably louder or hotter than it used to be, or when it cycles irregularly under a steady demand for solution. A pump that has been run dry, even briefly, is the classic case: running without liquid to lubricate and cool it damages the internals quickly and permanently.
Keeping the strainer clean is the single cheapest thing you can do to extend the life of this pump. Debris drawn out of the solution tank is what wears it, and the strainer is the only thing standing between the two. When fitting a replacement, support the plumbing while you break and remake the connections so you do not strain the adjacent fittings, and prime the system before running it so the new pump never sees a dry start.
Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956. Because the 230-volt Marathon machines are export-market builds, this pump is not stocked by US retail in the way the 115-volt parts are, so it is listed as call-for-price — phone us and we will quote the current price and confirm lead time rather than publish a figure we cannot stand behind.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does the Tornado 230V solution pump do on the Marathon extractors?
It draws cleaning solution from the tank and pressurises it to 100 P.S.I. so the spray bar can deliver an even pattern ahead of the brush roller. The vacuum and brush still run without it, but the machine will not lay down solution and so will not clean.
How do I know if my solution pump (part# 32227) needs replacing?
Rule out the cheap causes first: a clogged in-line strainer, blocked spray nozzles and leaking fittings cause most weak-spray complaints. Suspect the pump when it runs but will not build pressure, is noticeably noisier or hotter than before, or cycles irregularly under steady demand. Running the pump dry is the usual cause of failure.
What models is the Pump 100 P.S.I. 230VAC 50/60 Hz (part# 32227) compatible with?
The Tornado 98167 20-inch Marathon 800 Carpet Extractor (8 Gallon, 230V) and the Tornado 98169 20-inch Marathon 1200 Carpet Extractor (12 Gallon, 230V). It is the 230-volt pump and does not fit the 115-volt 98166 and 98168 machines.
