Tornado Pump Mounting Bracket 31490
Genuine Tornado OEM bracket (part# 31490) that mounts the solution pump on the Series G build of the PS Series professional spotters, fitted as a pair. It carries the pump’s weight, holds its ports in position so the plumbing is not flexed, and controls vibration — a bent one shows up as a joint that keeps weeping. Factory-order item: call 763-535-0770 for current pricing and to confirm the series. Fits the Series G PS Spotter 98220 and 98221 — see the compatibility list below.
The Tornado Pump Mounting Bracket 31490 is the genuine OEM bracket that mounts the solution pump in the Series G build of the PS Series professional spotters. The machine uses two, working as a pair, and they are fitted alongside the pump plate that carries the assembly.
Compatible Models for the Pump Mounting Bracket
- Tornado PS Spotter 98220 — PS Series professional spotter, 115V, Series G only
- Tornado PS8221 Spotter 98221 — the 230-volt build, Series G only
This is a Series G part. Tornado’s factory cross-reference returns only the Series G builds of the 98220 and 98221, which is consistent with Series G reworking the pump mounting. If your serial label shows Series C, D, E or F, this is not your bracket — call us at 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will read the series off it and identify the right part before anything is ordered.
What the bracket does
A solution pump on a machine this size is a small, heavy, vibrating object, and the bracket’s job is to hold it in a fixed position relative to everything it is plumbed and wired to. That sounds trivial until it fails, because a pump mount is doing three things at once.
It carries the weight of the pump, which on a machine that is wheeled over thresholds and lifted into vans means carrying that weight under shock loading, not just statically. It holds position, so the pump’s inlet and outlet ports stay where the hoses and fittings expect them — if the pump can shift, the plumbing is flexed every time it does. And it controls vibration: a solenoid or diaphragm pump cycles continuously in use, and a mount that has gone slack lets that movement into the housing and into the joints either side of the pump.
Fitted as a pair, the two brackets also locate the pump squarely. A bent bracket on one side does not just move the pump — it tilts it, which puts a steady side load on the fittings at both ports. That is why they should be inspected and replaced together rather than one at a time.
The symptom this produces is rarely identified as a mounting problem. It shows up as a pump that has become noisy, a rattle or buzz through the housing in use, or a fitting that keeps weeping and will not stay sealed no matter how carefully it is remade.
When to replace it
Replace the bracket if it is bent, twisted or distorted; if it is cracked, which on a vibrating mount usually starts at a fastener hole or a bend radius and can be a hairline that is easy to miss; if a mounting hole has elongated or torn out; if it is corroded enough to have lost section; or if it will no longer hold the pump square and firm with its fasteners properly tightened.
Replace both whenever the pump is removed for any other reason. The access is the expensive part of this job, and a tired bracket going back under a new pump transfers the old problem straight into the new part.
Check the fastener holes specifically. A bracket that is sound in the middle and worn at the holes is still finished, because the hole is where the clamping force has to act.
Fitting notes
Note the orientation and the exact fastener positions before removing the old brackets, and transfer the new ones to the same holes — position is what sets where the pump’s ports sit, and a pump a few millimetres out of place puts a permanent strain on its plumbing.
Fit both brackets loosely, seat the pump, then bring the fasteners up progressively and evenly rather than fully tightening one side first. That lets the pump settle square instead of being pulled over by whichever side went down first. Fit new lock washers or lock nuts as applicable rather than reusing them, since this is a joint that is specifically subject to vibration.
With everything tightened, check the pump by hand for any movement, confirm nothing is strained at either port, and run the machine briefly before closing the housing: a mounting problem is audible straight away and much easier to correct while you can still see it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the Pump Mounting Bracket 31490 fit my Tornado spotter?
Only if your serial label shows Series G. Tornado’s cross-reference returns this bracket for the Series G builds of the 98220 and 98221 alone, because that revision reworked the pump mounting. Call us at 763-535-0770 with the serial number and we will read the series off it.
What does the Pump Mounting Bracket do?
Three things at once: it carries the pump’s weight under the shock loads of a machine being wheeled and lifted, it holds the pump’s inlet and outlet ports in a fixed position so the plumbing is not flexed, and it controls the vibration of a pump that cycles continuously in use.
Can a worn Pump Mounting Bracket cause a leak?
Yes, and it is often misdiagnosed. A bracket that is bent or slack lets the pump move or sit tilted, which puts a steady side load on the fittings at both ports. That shows up as a joint that keeps weeping and will not stay sealed however carefully it is remade — along with new noise or a rattle through the housing.
