This is the metal holder that retains the Tornado Tempest air duct cover. Tacony’s dealer record names it Metal Holder, Air Duct; the parts book prints the same number against Air Duct Holder. It is the bracket that clamps the duct down against its seals.

What the Air Duct Metal Holder Does

The duct cover has to be held firmly and evenly against its sealing faces, because any gap is an air leak on the clean side of the filter. The holder provides that clamping force. It also protects the moulded cover from being pulled down unevenly, which is what cracks a duct around its mounting points.

When to Replace It

Replace the holder if it has bent, cracked, or lost tension so it no longer pulls the duct down evenly. A distorted holder is worth catching early — it will keep cracking duct covers, and the cover is much the more expensive part of the two.

Fitting Notes

Check it against a straightedge. Fit the duct cover onto clean, sound seals first, then the holder, and tighten evenly rather than one point at a time. Uneven tightening is what puts a crack through a moulded duct at its mounting boss.

Almost always because it is being clamped unevenly. Check this holder for a bend and check every mounting point is present and tightened evenly. A holder that has lost its shape concentrates load on one boss, and the moulding cracks there every time.
