This is the collared bearing used in the Tornado Tempest filter and blower assembly. Tacony’s parts book names it Bearing w/Collar. The collar is part of the specification, not an accessory — it is what locates the bearing axially, so a plain bearing of the same bore is not a substitute.

What the Bearing with Collar Does

A bearing with an integral collar is used where a shaft has to be both supported and positioned. In the shaker mechanism that matters because the drive has to stay in the same axial position for the cleaning bar to sweep the same line every stroke. Let the shaft wander and the bar stops reaching one end of the filter.

When to Replace It

Replace the bearing when it is rough or noisy when turned by hand, when it has developed play, or when the shaker has become noticeably louder. Bearings give warning before they fail, and replacing one that has started to feel rough is much cheaper than dealing with the damage a seized one causes to the shaft and linkage.

Fitting Notes

Note the orientation of the collar before removal. Fit the new bearing squarely rather than driving it in at an angle, and turn the shaft by hand afterwards to confirm it runs freely before powering the shaker up.
