The bottom housing is the single largest structural part on the Tornado Tempest. Everything else on the sweeper — brushroll, side broom, caster, rear axle, battery housing, hopper and handle brackets — mounts to it either directly or through a bracket bolted to it. What the Bottom Housing Does

It carries the machine’s load and sets the geometry of the whole cleaning head. The mounting bosses in the casting hold the brush motor and bearing plates at a fixed height above the floor, which is what makes the brushroll sweep at a consistent depth across a 26 inch path. The skirt rails around its perimeter locate the front and side skirts, and the reinforced pad at the rear takes the caster plate and its M10 hardware.

Where It Sits on the Machine

It is the base casting shown on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, with the rear axle assembly bolting to the back of it and the front skirt frame to the leading edge. Twenty-four M6 x 16 screws run around its bottom edge holding the bottom skirt down, and the hopper seals seat against its upper lip.

When to Replace It

A bottom housing is replaced after impact damage, a cracked mounting boss, or stripped threads that will no longer hold the brush deck or caster hardware. If the machine has started sweeping unevenly side to side, or the brushroll contacts carpet harder at one end than the other, check the housing for a bend or crack before replacing brush components — a distorted chassis will keep ruining brushes no matter how many you fit.

Fitting Notes

This is a full teardown job. The brushroll, side broom, battery housing, hopper, skirts, caster and handle brackets all transfer to the new housing, so work from the parts diagram and keep the hardware grouped by diagram position as you remove it.
