This is the M6 x 16 screw that holds the bottom skirt to the underside of the Tornado Tempest housing. Tacony’s dealer record names it Screw M6x16, Bottom Skirt, which is what separates it from the other M6 screws used elsewhere on the machine. Twenty-four are fitted to a Tempest, so it is sensible to order a handful whenever the skirts come off.

What the Bottom Skirt Screw M6 x 16 Does

The bottom skirt is what keeps swept debris under the machine and moving toward the hopper instead of escaping sideways. That only works if the skirt is held flat along its whole length, which is why there are twenty-four fixings rather than a few. Each screw clamps the skirt against the housing rail; a missing or loose one lets the skirt lift and leaves a trail of debris behind the sweeper.

When to Replace It

Replace any screw that is rounded off, corroded, or will no longer pull the skirt tight. Screws in this position take repeated removal every time the skirts are serviced, and the heads wear. If a screw spins without tightening, the thread in the housing has stripped rather than the screw — call us before forcing it, because a helicoil in the casting is cheaper than a new bottom housing.

Fitting Notes

Work around the skirt in sequence rather than tightening one end fully first, so the skirt beds down evenly. Snug is enough; these thread into a moulded boss and will strip if they are treated like structural bolts. Check the skirt sits flat against the floor along its whole length before putting the machine back to work.
