Tornado Tempest Caster Hex Nut K73114230

This is the hex nut that retains the caster screw under the front of the Tornado Tempest. Tacony’s dealer record names it Nut, Castor, which is what separates it from the other hex nuts on the machine — the Tempest also uses nuts at the adjustment knob, the axle, the fixing strap, the debris bag clamp and the baffle plate, and every one of those is a different part number.

What the Caster Hex Nut Does

It holds the single M10 screw that carries the whole front load of the sweeper. There is no second fastener at this position, so the nut is the only thing keeping the caster attached. That is why it is worth replacing rather than reusing whenever the caster comes apart.

Where It Sits on the Machine

It fits on the underside of the caster mount at the front of the bottom housing on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, on the end of the M10 x 45 saucer head screw.

When to Replace It

Replace the nut if the thread is stretched, if it spins on with no resistance, or if it has been running loose. A nut that has worked loose on a load-bearing joint has usually taken some thread damage even when it looks sound. Replace the washers at the same time.

Fitting Notes

Hold the screw head while you tighten so the saucer head stays seated flush and does not spin in the plate. Tighten firmly, then spin the caster by hand to confirm it still swivels freely — if it has gone stiff, the stack has been assembled in the wrong order or something has been over-tightened.

Should I fit a new nut when I change the caster?

Yes, we would. It costs very little and it is the only fastener holding the caster to the machine. If the old nut has been in service for years or has worked loose at any point, fitting a new one removes the doubt.
