This is the filter cleaner plate for the Tornado Tempest. Tacony’s dealer record names it Filter Cleaner Plate; the parts book prints the same number against Filter Cleaning Wiper. It is the moving element that sweeps the face of the filter when the shaker runs.

What the Filter Cleaner Plate Does

Automatic filter cleaning only works if something physically contacts the filter and disturbs the dust cake. This plate is that something. Driven by the shaker motor through the connecting link and fork head, it travels across the filter and knocks the load off into the hopper. When it wears, warps or comes adrift, the shaker still runs and nothing useful happens.

It runs across the face of the filter inside the filter housing on the Tempest filter and blower diagram, carried on the cleaning bar and driven by the shaker linkage.

When to Replace It

Replace the plate if it is worn thin along its sweeping edge, cracked, or bent so it no longer contacts the filter across its whole width. The symptom is the same as a failed shaker motor — airflow that will not recover after cleaning — so check that the plate actually reaches the filter along its full travel before you replace the motor.

Fitting Notes

Fit it with the sweeping edge facing the filter and confirm by hand that it contacts across the full width at both ends of its travel. If it touches at one end and clears at the other, the housing or the bar is out of true and that needs sorting first.

Open up and watch the cleaner plate travel. It has to contact the filter across the full width at both ends of its stroke. A worn, bent or detached plate produces exactly the symptom of a dead shaker motor while the motor itself is perfectly healthy.

Is the cleaner plate the same as the prefilter stripper?

No. The prefilter stripper, K50321230, keeps the pre-filter clear. K40409900 is the plate that sweeps the main filter. Both are part of keeping the filtration working, but they are different parts in different places.
