Tornado Tempest Filter Shaker Motor K64542220

This is the motor that drives the Tornado Tempest filter shaker. Tacony’s dealer record names it Filter Shaker Motor; the parts book lists the same number simply as Motor. It is a different motor from the vacuum blower and from the brush and side broom motors, all of which are separate part numbers.

What the Filter Shaker Motor Does

The Tempest cleans its own filter. When the operator runs the shaker, this motor drives a linkage that moves the cleaning bar across the pleated filter and knocks the loaded dust off it into the hopper. That is what keeps airflow up through a long shift without anyone having to pull the filter out and beat it. When the shaker motor stops working, suction falls off progressively as the filter loads and does not recover.

It mounts on the filter housing on the Tempest filter and blower diagram, driving the connecting link, the fork head and the filter cleaning bar.

When to Replace It

Replace the motor when the shaker will not run at all, runs intermittently, or has become noisy and slow. Before ordering, check the simple things: the switch, the harness connection and whether the linkage itself has jammed on compacted dust. A seized linkage will stall a perfectly good motor, and it will do the same to a new one.

Fitting Notes

Note how the linkage is assembled before you disturb it. The connecting link, fork head, angle joint and cleaning bar all have to go back in the same relationship or the bar will not sweep the full face of the filter. Run the shaker by hand through a full cycle after fitting and before closing the machine up.

My suction drops off during a shift and comes back after I clean the filter by hand. Is this the part?

That is the classic symptom of a shaker that is not doing its job. Check first that the shaker actually runs when operated and that the cleaning bar moves across the full width of the filter. If the motor does not turn, or the linkage is jammed, that is where to look. If both work, the filter itself may simply be at the end of its life.

Is the shaker motor the same as the vacuum motor?

No. The vacuum motor is part number K64840020 and is a much larger and more expensive part. K64542220 is the small motor that drives the filter cleaning mechanism. They are entirely separate, and a machine can have one working and the other failed.
