Tornado Tempest Front Skirt K50321170

The front skirt is the flexible strip that runs across the leading edge of the Tornado Tempest cleaning head. It is the first thing the machine presents to the carpet, and it is what stops debris being pushed forward and away from the brushroll instead of being picked up.

What the Front Skirt Does

A sweeper only works if the air and debris under the head stay under the head. The front skirt seals the leading edge against the carpet so the brushroll can throw debris back into the hopper. When it is worn short or split, the machine leaves a line of larger debris behind it and the pick-up rate drops noticeably on the first pass.

Where It Sits on the Machine

It is fitted along the front edge of the bottom housing on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, clamped by the front skirt metal plate and its frame.

When to Replace It

Skirts are wear parts and the front skirt wears fastest. Replace it when the edge has gone hard and glazed, when it has worn back far enough to lose contact with the carpet, or when it has split or torn. If the machine has started leaving debris in front of itself rather than behind, this is the first part to check.

Fitting Notes

Remove the front skirt metal plate, lift the old skirt out, and seat the new one fully into its channel before refitting the plate. Tighten the plate screws evenly along the length so the skirt is held flat, and check the skirt contacts the carpet along its full width with the machine at working height.

There is no fixed interval — it depends entirely on hours and on what the machine sweeps. The practical test is contact: with the sweeper at working height on carpet, the skirt should touch along its full width. Once it has worn back past contact, or gone hard and glazed, pick-up falls off and it is time.

Is the front skirt the same as the side skirts?

No. The front skirt is K50321170 and the side skirts are K50321820, a different length and a different part number. Two side skirts are fitted and one front skirt. They are not interchangeable.
