Tornado Tempest Front Skirt Metal Plate K50979810

This is the metal plate that clamps the front skirt to the leading edge of the Tornado Tempest housing. Tacony’s dealer record names it Metal Plate, Front Skirt, which distinguishes it from the side skirt plate and from the main skirt plate used elsewhere on the machine.

What the Front Skirt Metal Plate Does

The plate does two things. It holds the skirt flat along its full width so the sealing edge meets the carpet evenly, and it protects the skirt’s mounting edge from the impacts the front of a sweeper takes. Without an undistorted plate the skirt lifts in the middle or at one end, and the seal is lost exactly where it matters most.

It bolts along the front edge of the bottom housing on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, over the front skirt and against the front skirt frame.

When to Replace It

Replace the plate if it has been bent by an impact, if the screw holes have elongated, or if it is corroded enough that it no longer pulls the skirt down flat. A bent plate is worth catching early: it will keep ruining front skirts, and a skirt is the part most people replace two or three times before they look at the plate holding it.

Fitting Notes

Lay a straightedge across the old plate before you refit it — a bend of only a millimetre or two across the width is enough to lift the skirt. Fit the new plate with the skirt seated fully in its channel, then tighten the screws evenly from the centre outward so the skirt is not pulled to one side.

My new front skirt still leaves debris behind. What else should I check?

Check the plate for a bend and the screw holes for elongation, then check that every screw is present and pulling the plate down evenly. A plate that has been knocked out of flat will lift the skirt in the middle no matter how new the skirt is. Also check the front skirt frame behind it.

Is this the same as the side skirt plate?

No. Tacony lists the front skirt plate as K50979810 and the side skirt metal plate as K50964250, and they are different shapes. Two side plates are fitted and one front plate.
