Tornado Tempest Left Handle Bracket K40409610

The left handle bracket is the structural link between the push handle and the left side of the Tornado Tempest chassis. Tacony lists it on the dealer system as Handle Bracket Left; the parts book calls the same number the Left Handle Connection. It is handed, so the left and right brackets are not interchangeable and carry different part numbers.

What the Left Handle Bracket Does

Everything the operator does to the machine goes through these two brackets. Push force, pull force and the twisting load of turning a 26 inch head all transfer from the handle into the chassis at this joint. The bracket also holds the handle’s pivot, which is what lets the handle fold down for storage and lock upright for work.

Where It Sits on the Machine

It sits on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, on the left-hand side of the bottom housing, with the push handle bolted through it by the M8 x 25 screws and retained by the yellow star grips.

When to Replace It

Replace a bracket that is cracked, bent, or has elongated its pivot hole. The symptom is usually play: the handle rocks side to side, or the machine wanders when pushed straight. Dropping a machine off a loading dock or catching the handle on a doorframe are the common causes. A cracked bracket will not get better and it puts the load onto its partner on the other side.

Fitting Notes

Support the handle before removing the bracket so it does not fall. Fit the new bracket loosely with the pivot hardware in place, then tighten once both sides are located, so the handle is not pulled out of square. Fold and raise the handle a few times to confirm it moves freely and the star grips clamp it solid at working height.
