This is the pivot point in the Tornado Tempest filter shaker linkage. Tacony’s parts book names it Pivot Point and there is no separate dealer description for this number, so we have used the manufacturer’s own name rather than making one up.

What the Pivot Point Does

The shaker turns rotation from its motor into the straight-line travel of the filter cleaning bar, and that conversion needs a fixed pivot to work against. This part provides it. If the pivot wears or works loose, the geometry of the linkage changes and the cleaning bar stops sweeping the filter through its designed stroke.

It is fitted in the filter shaker linkage on the Tempest filter and blower diagram, working with the connecting link, the fork head and the angle joint.

When to Replace It

Replace the pivot when there is visible play at the joint, when it has worn oval, or when the linkage has developed a knock in service. Wear at a pivot is progressive and it accelerates once it starts, so it is worth dealing with rather than watching. Check the bushings and the connecting link at the same time, since they wear as a set.

Note how the linkage is assembled before disturbing it. The relationship between the pivot, connecting link, fork head and cleaning bar determines where the bar sweeps, and getting one component back a hole out will leave part of the filter uncleaned. Work the mechanism through a full cycle by hand before closing up.
