What the Push Handle Screw M8 x 25 Does

When to Replace It

Replace a screw with a rounded head, a damaged thread, or visible wear on the shank where it has been pivoting. A worn shank is the common one on this position — it shows up as play in the handle that no amount of tightening will remove. Replace both at once so the handle pivots evenly.

Fitting Notes

Fit with the washer in place and do not over-tighten: this is a pivot, and the handle has to rotate on it. The star grip is what clamps the handle at working height, not the screw. If you find you have to crank the screw down hard to stop play, the shank or the bracket hole is worn and the part needs replacing rather than tightening.

Why does my handle still have play after tightening?

Because this screw is a pivot, not a clamp. If the shank has worn or the bracket pivot hole has gone oval, tightening the screw will not take the play out and will only make the handle stiff to fold. Replace the screws first, and inspect the bracket holes while the handle is off.
