This is the M5 x 8 screw used on the Tornado Tempest filter and blower assembly. Tacony publishes the size in the part description, and it is the only M5 x 8 on the machine, which is what makes the size a sufficient identifier here. Three are fitted.

What the Screw M5 x 8 Does

Length matters more than people expect on a short screw. At 8mm there is just enough thread to engage properly in the boss and no more, so substituting a longer M5 will either bottom out before it clamps or push through into something behind it. Neither failure is obvious until the assembly is back together.

Replace a screw with a rounded head, a damaged thread, or any bend. They are inexpensive and there is no case for reusing a marginal one when the assembly is already open.

Fitting Notes

Do not substitute a longer M5 screw. If you are short of one, order the right part rather than making do — a screw that bottoms out feels tight while clamping nothing, and one that is too long can foul what sits behind the boss.
