Tornado Tempest Side Skirt K50321820

The side skirts run down each side of the Tornado Tempest cleaning head and seal the sides of the sweeping path against the carpet. Two are fitted per machine and they are the same part on both sides. They are a different length and part number from the front skirt.

What the Side Skirt Does

On a 26 inch head, the side seals are what keep the swept debris travelling back to the hopper rather than spilling out at the edges. When they wear back or harden, the machine still sweeps but leaves a dusty margin down either side of the pass, and the operator has to overlap more to get the same result.

Where It Sits on the Machine

One runs along each side of the bottom housing on the Tempest handle and frame diagram, held by the side skirt metal plate and backed by the side skirt frame.

When to Replace It

Replace when the skirt has worn back far enough that it no longer contacts the carpet at working height, when the edge has gone hard and glazed, or when it has split. Replace both sides together — one new skirt against one worn skirt gives an uneven seal and the machine will still leave a margin on the worn side.

Fitting Notes

Remove the side skirt metal plate, lift the old skirt from its channel, and seat the new one fully before refitting the plate. Check the plate for a bend while it is off. Tighten the screws evenly along the length and confirm the skirt contacts carpet along its whole run at working height.

Should I replace both side skirts at the same time?

Yes. The two sides wear at slightly different rates, but a machine with one new and one worn skirt seals unevenly and still leaves a dusty margin on the worn side. They are inexpensive and doing the pair takes no extra time once the plates are off.

Do the side skirts fit the front position as well?

No. The front skirt is a different part number, K50321170, and a different length. Order the front and side skirts separately.
