What the Wheel Hubcap Does

It keeps carpet fibre, string and grit out of the wheel hub and off the axle nut, which is what stops the nut seizing and the hub packing solid with debris. On a sweeper working carpet all day that is not cosmetic — a hub packed with fibre drags, and a seized nut turns a five-minute wheel change into a much longer job.

Replace a hubcap that has cracked, lost its grip and keeps falling off, or gone missing. A missing hubcap is worth replacing promptly rather than running without one, because the debris it keeps out is exactly what makes the next wheel service difficult.

Fitting Notes

It pushes on by hand. Take the old one off carefully if you intend to inspect it, because a cracked cap will often break up on removal. Make sure the axle nut is fully tightened before the cap goes back on, since you will not be able to check it afterwards without pulling the cap again.

No. The wheel, part number K64354120, is supplied on its own. The hubcap, washer, lock washer and axle nut are separate part numbers and either transfer from the old wheel or are ordered alongside the new one.

My hubcap keeps falling off. Is the wheel worn?

It can be a sign of it. The cap grips on the wheel hub, so if the hub face is worn or the cap has lost its spring the fit goes loose. Check the hub for wear while the cap is off, and if the wheel bore has opened up as well it is worth replacing the wheel rather than just the cap.
