This is the wiper plate in the Tornado Tempest filter cleaning assembly. Tacony’s parts book names it Wiper Plate and there is no separate dealer description for this number, so we have used the manufacturer’s own name.

What the Wiper Plate Does

Filter cleaning on the Tempest works by physical contact, and the wiper plate is one of the contact elements. It bears on the filter as the mechanism travels and disturbs the dust cake so it falls into the hopper. Contact is everything here: a plate that no longer reaches the filter is the same, from the operator’s point of view, as a shaker that does not run.

It is mounted in the filter cleaning assembly on the Tempest filter and blower diagram, carried by the cleaning bar and backed by the support plate.

When to Replace It

Replace the plate when its working edge has worn round, when it is cracked, or when it no longer contacts the filter across its full width. Uneven wear along the edge is a sign the bar or the support plate is out of true, so check those before fitting a new one.

Fitting Notes

Fit it with the working edge toward the filter and confirm contact by hand across the full width at both ends of the stroke. If it contacts at one end only, look at the cleaning bar for a bow and the support plate for a bend before blaming the new part.
