What the battery locking latch does

It is the only thing stopping a heavy battery leaving the machine while it is being worn. The latch hooks the pack down against the rail so the terminals stay loaded against the contacts, and releases cleanly when the button drives it back.

Signs it needs replacing

Replace it if the pack can be pulled off without pressing the release, if the latch no longer springs back, or if its hook is visibly worn or chipped. A pack that seats but rattles is an early warning.

Installation and fit

Remove the pack, then the latch comes out with its spring and release button as a small assembly. Fit the new latch dry — no grease, which collects grit — and check the pack locks and releases several times before the machine goes back out.

Press the pack down and try to lift it. If it lifts without the button, the latch is worn. If it rocks side to side, the rail (K56052383) is the problem.
