What the battery rail does

The rail aligns the pack so its terminals meet the battery contacts squarely, carries the load of the pack while the machine is worn, and gives the locking latch something to engage. Every battery change works this part, which is why it is the wear item in the battery bay rather than the pack itself.

Signs it needs replacing

Replace the rail if the pack goes on loose or rocks once seated, if a rib has broken off, or if the pack has started cutting out in use because the terminals are no longer held against the contacts. A worn rail and a tired contact set often show up together.

Installation and fit

Remove the pack, then the rail unfastens from the body. Check the battery contact (K40513683) and the locking latch (K40715990) while everything is exposed — they are cheap and it is the same teardown.
