What the battery release button does

It converts a thumb press into latch movement. The button rides in the housing, pushes the latch clear of the pack, and is returned by its spring. It is worked every single battery change, which on a machine in daily commercial use is several times a shift.

Replace it when the button sticks down, feels gritty, has cracked around the stem, or no longer returns on its own. A button that has to be wiggled to release the pack is on its way out.

Installation and fit

Take the pack off, free the button from the housing and check the spring while you are in there. Fit the new button dry and test the release a few times — it should return crisply with no help.
