What the hose adapter clip does

It holds the adapter captive so the hose can be twisted and pulled without working the fitting out of the machine. Small as it is, it is what stops a hose coming away mid-job.

Signs it needs replacing

Replace it if it is deformed, has lost its spring, or no longer snaps fully into its groove. If the adapter can be pulled out by hand, the clip has failed even if it looks intact.

Installation and fit

Seat the adapter first, then work the clip fully into its groove all the way round. Tug the adapter afterwards — it should not move.
