What the motor gasket does

It seals the joint so every cubic foot of air the motor moves comes through the bag and filters rather than leaking in around the motor. It also cushions the motor, keeping its vibration out of the shell and out of the operator’s back.

Signs it needs replacing

Replace it whenever the motor comes out, and any time the gasket is flattened, hardened, torn or has taken a permanent set. A machine that sounds louder and pulls worse after a motor job usually has a gasket that was reused once too often.

Installation and fit

Clean both faces before fitting. Seat the gasket dry, drop the motor squarely onto it, then tighten the five M4 x 22 screws (K73030960) evenly so the gasket compresses flat rather than on one edge.
