What the post filter does

It catches carbon dust and motor debris so the air coming off the machine is clean at the operator’s back. Because the Zephyr is worn, its exhaust is much closer to the person using it than an upright’s is, which is why this stage exists at all.

Signs it needs replacing

Change it when it is grey through its depth, when the exhaust smells, or on a schedule with the motor protection filter. A loaded post filter also restricts airflow, so it costs suction as well as air quality.

Installation and fit

No tools. Lift the old filter out of its recess and press the new one in fully so no air can pass around its edge — a filter sitting proud is a filter being bypassed.
