What the suction hose does

It carries everything the machine picks up and takes all the handling abuse of the job — dragged round corners, stood on, pulled taut from the far side of a room. Its cuffs have to keep a seal under vacuum while the hose is twisted constantly.

Signs it needs replacing

Replace it when there is a split or pinhole anywhere along its length, when a cuff no longer grips, or when the hose has been crushed flat somewhere and no longer opens out. A leaking hose is the most common cause of “the machine has lost suction” on a backpack.

Installation and fit

No tools. Push the cuff fully onto the adapter until it seats, and check the joint is silent under vacuum. A quick test: block the wand end — the motor note should change cleanly.
