This is the short 3/8-16 on the machine — 3/4 inch where the longer 19171 is 1-1/4 inch. Same thread, different length, different part number, and they are not substitutes for one another. Part number 19207 is the genuine OEM screw.

The short one exists because the boss it goes into is shallow. Fitting the long screw there is the single most common mistake in this family: it runs out of hole before the head reaches the surface, so it either bottoms and clamps nothing, or it is forced and splits the boss. A cracked boss in a moulding or a casting is an expensive fix for a dollar fastener.
Because the failure is silent, it is worth checking rather than assuming. Wind the screw into its hole by hand with nothing clamped: it should run in easily and stop when the head touches. If it stops before the head lands, it is too long for that hole.
Where a machine has been through several repairs, expect to find fasteners in the wrong places. A joint that has never stayed tight, or a boss that is already cracked, often has a screw from another position in it. Sorting fasteners by where they came from during a strip-down prevents the next person inheriting the problem.
Inspect before refitting: a dulled thread crest on the first few turns, a stretched section under the head, or pitting from detergent all mean the screw has lost either grip or section. These cost very little and the joints they hold are not ones to economise on.
Fit with clean threads and the correct washer arrangement, to firm torque rather than maximum effort, with a new lock washer wherever one is specified.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Tornado machines does the screw 19207 fit?
It is used on the Tornado 98164 MWH-800 8-gallon self-contained extractor, the 98166 and 98167 20″ Marathon 800, the 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained extractor and the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series. Call 763-535-0770 with your model number if you are not sure.
What is the difference between 19207 and 19171?
Length. Both are 3/8-16, but 19207 is 3/4 inch and 19171 is 1-1/4 inch, and they are not substitutes. The short one goes where the boss is shallow; fitting the long screw there means it bottoms out and clamps nothing, or is forced and splits the boss.
How do I check I have the right length?
Wind the screw into its hole by hand with nothing clamped. It should run in easily and stop when the head touches the surface. If it stops before the head lands, it is too long for that hole — and a joint that has never stayed tight often has a screw from another position in it.
