As a direct-air fan it sits right in the dirty-air path, so anything the vacuum swallows — coins, screws, hairpins — strikes the spinning impeller. That is the most common way it fails: a chipped or cracked blade throws the fan out of balance, which you notice as a sudden drop in suction, a rattle or rising whine that tracks with motor speed, and vibration you can feel through the handle.
Because it is a precision-balanced impeller pressed onto the motor shaft, replacing it means opening the motor housing and drawing the old fan off the shaft — a more involved job than a brush or bag swap, and one most owners bring to a shop. Running a cracked fan is not worth the risk: an unbalanced impeller chews up the motor bearings and can shatter, so replace it promptly once a blade is damaged.
Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tacony floor-care equipment since 1956, and we stock genuine Tacony parts so the fan is correctly balanced for the motor. Frequently Asked Questions
Is the B220-4314 the whole motor or just the fan?
Just the fan. The B220-4314 is the direct-air impeller that presses onto the motor shaft — it does not include the motor. If your motor still runs but suction is weak and rattly, the fan is often the part that needs replacing.
What are the signs of a bad B220-4314 motor fan?
A sudden loss of suction, a rattle or whine that gets louder with motor speed, and vibration in the handle. These usually point to a cracked or chipped impeller blade, most often from debris pulled through the dirty-air path.
How hard is it to replace the B220-4314 motor fan?
It is a shop-level repair on most of these machines: the motor housing has to be opened and the old fan pressed off the shaft before the new one goes on. If you are not comfortable working inside the motor, our service shop can do it.
