An O-ring seals by being squeezed, which means it has to be the right size in three dimensions and the right material for what it sits in. Part number 19140 is the genuine OEM O-ring for the MWH-800, Marathon 800 and Marathon 1200 extractors.

The commonest cause of a leak at an O-ring is not the ring wearing out but the ring being damaged on installation. A ring dragged over a sharp thread or a burr picks up a nick on the way in, and that nick becomes the leak path. Chamfer or tape over the thread it has to pass, and lubricate the ring with clean water or a compatible grease before fitting.
The second cause is compression set. A ring held squeezed in one position for years stops springing back, so it seals against a static face and fails the moment there is any movement or pressure cycling. A ring that comes out flattened rather than round has taken a set, and it was probably leaking before you opened the joint.
Material matters more than size here. Detergent attacks some elastomers and not others, and a ring of exactly the right dimensions in the wrong compound swells, goes sticky and extrudes out of its groove within months. That is why fitting the correct part number beats matching a ring from a assortment box, however convenient the box is.
Check the groove as well as the ring. Scale, grit or a fragment of the last ring left in the groove holds the new one proud and it will leak in exactly the same place. Clean the groove out fully and inspect the sealing face for scoring before reassembly.
Never reuse one. An O-ring is the cheapest part in any joint it seals and the only one that guarantees the joint works.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Tornado machines does the O-ring 19140 fit?
It is used on the Tornado 98164 MWH-800 8-gallon self-contained extractor, the 98166 and 98167 20″ Marathon 800, the 98168 12 Gallon Self Contained extractor and the 98168 20″ Marathon 1200 in all series. Call 763-535-0770 with your model number if you are not sure.
My new O-ring leaked immediately — what went wrong?
Almost always damage on installation or a dirty groove. A ring dragged over a sharp thread or a burr picks up a nick that becomes the leak path, and scale or a fragment of the old ring left in the groove holds the new one proud. Clean the groove fully and lubricate the ring before fitting.
Can I use an O-ring from an assortment box?
Not reliably. Detergent attacks some elastomers and not others, so a ring of exactly the right dimensions in the wrong compound swells, goes sticky and extrudes out of its groove within months. Material matters more than size in this application.
