The Tornado Screw M4 x 16 Pan Head (part# 23192) is the genuine OEM slotted pan-head machine screw, M4 by 16 mm, zinc plated. It is ordinary hardware doing a job that is not ordinary: holding panels and brackets together on a machine that is wet, warm and vibrating for hours at a time. The zinc plating is the reason to buy the right one — an unplated screw in a carpet extractor rusts into its thread and turns a five-minute panel removal into a drilling job.

Compatible Models for the Screw M4 x 16 Pan Head

  • Tornado 98169 20″ Marathon 1200 Carpet Extractor (12 Gallon 115V)
  • Tornado 98166 20″ Marathon 800 Carpet Extractor (8 Gallon 115V)

Replace these in sets rather than singly. By the time one has rounded out its slot or seized, the others in the same panel have had the same exposure, and the cost of a handful of screws is nothing against the time lost extracting a seized one later. It is worth keeping a few spare with the machine for exactly that reason.

Two practical notes. First, this is a metric screw on a machine that also uses imperial hardware elsewhere — an M4 and a #8 look similar enough to cross-thread if they get mixed in a tray, and a cross-threaded M4 in an aluminium boss is an expensive mistake on a cheap part. Keep them separate during a strip-down. Second, the slotted drive is easy to cam out of when the screw is tight or corroded: use a driver that actually fills the slot rather than the nearest one to hand.

Twin City Vacuum has been selling and servicing Tornado equipment since 1956, and we stock the fasteners as well as the assemblies so a repair does not stall over a screw. Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Screw M4 x 16 Pan Head (part# 23192) do on a Tornado extractor?

It is a zinc-plated machine screw used to fasten panels and brackets. The plating matters on a machine that runs wet — an unplated substitute rusts into its thread.

Should I replace just the one screw that failed?

Replace the set in that panel. The others have had identical exposure, and extracting a seized screw later costs far more than a handful of new ones.
